Cooperatives & Cooperators Can’t Be Left Behind In The Digital Technology Advancement – Victor Oyegoke

In its 5th year running, the Cooperative Support Services (CoopSupport) Ltd presents the 5th edition of her flagship tech program organized annually, focusing on Cooperatives’ cum Cooperators’ Business Growth and Development. The theme for the 2021 event is titled “Disruptive Digital Transformation Strategies for Cooperative Sustainability” alongside some topical discussion from a Keynote Speaker and Panel of Digital Transformation Strategists, Cooperative Experts, Digital Marketing Gurus, Tech Experts and Enterprise Startups Strategists.

Mr. Victor Oyegoke

In a recent interview with Mr. Victor Oyegoke, the Principal Consultant/CEO of CoopSupport, where he was asked why the annual event has not stopped despite not getting corporate sponsors.  He said, “my believe, passion and zeal in cooperative enterprise as a business model, comfortable for the people at bottom of the pyramid and it’s convenience for the middle class form my resolution to continually ensure the program is organized and as well, continue to Promote, Develop and ensure Cooperative Sustainability which led to the creation of our organization – Cooperative Support Services Ltd known as CoopSupport in the first place. So corporate sponsors or not, we move! Financial gains has never been our drive or motive of organizing all of our events, the value addition we are making I guess, is the main reason we have continued to push further ensuring the impact we are making in the sector today. One Coop at a Time!

He further reiterated that, the success of past events within the last five years coupled with the quality of their programs and consistency must have been a factor that garnered so much momentum to make the annual Digital Masterclass & Symposium become the sort after program to attend annually by Cooperators in Nigeria”.

Mr. Oyegoke, concluded that “Cooperatives & Cooperators can’t be left behind in the digital technology advancement being made in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Internet of Things (IoTs), Robotics, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Information Technology (IT), Data Science, Cloud & Blockchain Technology and Digital Marketing etc. as it relates to Cooperative operations and management. You will agree with me that through technology the whole wide world has now become a global village that within a twinkle of an eye information passes us by and creative innovations are being made daily, leading to businesses becoming more competitive in respect to how disruptive digital transformation strategies are impacting businesses.

As we can see, Data and Digital Transformation are driving paradigm shift in the way businesses are being operated globally. Therefore, Cooperative Business Model is not exceptional, we must leverage on technologies for the sustainability of our growth and development.

Participants at this year’s event won’t only benefit from enhanced capacity on Digital Platforms and other Technologies for  Cooperative Business Growth and Development but also gain more informed knowledge with new perspective and new frontiers on the shift in technology as it affects the future of cooperative ecosystems in Nigeria.

The event would be coming up on Thursday, the 29th Day of April, 2021 by 9am at NECA, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

NEW BUSINESS BOOK LAUNCHED

Principal Consultant/CEO of Cooperative Support Services (CoopSupport)Announces the Release of a Business Book titled – COOPERATIVE BUSINESS MODEL: The Basic Elements You Need to Know

CoopSupport launches a new business book virtually on Sunday 16th August 2020, called COOPERATIVE BUSINESS MODEL: The Basic Elements You Need to Know, written by Victor Oyegoke. It features eight (8)expository packed chapters and comes with a range of knowledge and resources that can help entrepreneurs, business consultants, a would-be Cooperative member or existing members, leaders, managers or a part of the regulatory officials or the policy-makers to know more about Cooperative Business Enterprises and seize the amazing opportunities associated with the alternative business model in socio-economic development of any Nation.

Read more about the book: https://www.cooperativesupport.com.ng/CoopBizModel highlighting the origin of modern cooperatives as practiced by the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers who had benefited immensely from the philosophy of Robert Owen’s Owenism and the practical teachings of Dr. William King. The history of Financial Cooperative as started by Raiffeisen and Schulze-Delitzsch down to our own local contributions through agricultural cooperatives cum thrift savings among salary earners.

This book is practical, highly-educational and inspiring. One Chapter in the book with very interesting read that delved into what the regulators do is Chapter Four (4)Understanding Cooperative Fieldwork, in order for Cooperative Members, Leaders and Managers to understand and appreciate the multifarious nature and extent of the duties carried out by the Regulators; explaining briefly the legal roles of the Director of Cooperative Services being the Chief Regulator in a state with his duties in Cooperative Promotion, Education, Registration, Inspection, Audit, and Advisory services. The author touched on Cooperative Arbitration, Inquiry and liquidation; while looking into the vexing issue of loan administration among thrift and credit societies he highlights steps to be taken in setting up cooperative societies in Nigeria.

The book will be available for purchase on Amazon, CoopSupport website and at all major Cooperative Area Offices in Nigeria.

In a recent interview, Mr. Oyegoke stated, “This Book – Cooperative Business Model: The Basic Elements You Need to Know is an expository work and repository of Co-ops knowledge with a vivid mission to assist and complement the work of the cooperative regulators and the movements in Nigeria by educating, training and informing their cooperators. Above all, propagating the gospel of cooperation through the book creating awareness and promoting this alternative business model among the public masses in order to spur more interests in joining Cooperatives or at forming one, more so, at managing it well successfully and sustainably”

This is the second book authored by Victor Oyegoke, but there is so much excitement about this launch, maybe because the author presents more practical insights into the alternative form of business model or is it because it’s the first of the kind Virtual Book Launch within the Cooperative Sector of Nigeria.

The previous book by Victor Cooperation: The Path way to Success shares some strategic ways of Cooperating On-to Outstanding Prosperity that guarantees a sure path to wealth and success in life, in relation to being creative, innovative, informed, connected and becoming a successful cooperator. It’s a life changing and explosive piece of work that would make anyone discover their purpose and become great in life. The first book has been highly ranked by critics.

Cooperatives for Climate Action: International Day of Cooperatives 2020 Theme Unveiled

The theme of the International Day of Cooperatives 2020 is COOPERATIVES FOR CLIMATE ACTION. We are inviting the global cooperative community to continue pushing for actions that will address climate change. This critical situation is putting lives and livelihoods at risk, disrupting vital ecosystems for people and the planet.

Our common home is in danger. There are methods of production and consumption that are constantly attacking the environment. We don’t have much time to reverse this situation. We must act now, with our values and principles, to demonstrate on a global scale that it is possible to develop an economy with social inclusion and protection of natural resources,” said Ariel Guarco, President of the International Cooperative Alliance.

On 4 July 2020, join us as we raise awareness on the importance of addressing climate change. No country is immune from it, greenhouse gas emissions are more than 50 percent higher than it was in 1990, and global warming is causing long-lasting changes to our climate system which threatens irreversible consequences if we do not act.

Cooperatives worldwide can take this opportunity to show leadership and share their cooperative values in combating this global issue. A Cooperator’s Communications Guide will soon be available to help cooperatives use this day to illustrate the importance of taking action to battle climate change.

As we did last year, together with DotCoop We are launching the 2020 International Cooperative Day interactive map to illustrate how cooperatives worldwide are taking action to battle climate change, and celebrating their successes. Get more information here on how to participate. Last year we registered more than 130 events in around 40 countries worldwide. We also encourage you to promote #CoopsDay and #Coops4ClimateAction widely on all your social media channels.

Why this theme?
The 2020 International Cooperatives Day theme was chosen to support Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13 on Climate Action. This event will focus on the contribution of cooperatives to combating climate change, one of the most severe challenges facing our planet during the 21st century. Climate change severely impacts people’s livelihoods around the world, especially the most disadvantaged groups such as small-scale farmers, women, youth, indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities, who have to cope with extreme natural disasters and degradation of natural resources.

The cooperative movement can use this important opportunity to take a stand as a global actor of change and collaborate with its partners within the international community. This collective effort can significantly impact the climate agenda and achieve a fair, green and just transition for all communities, leaving no one behind.

About the International Day of Cooperatives
The United Nations International Day of Cooperatives is celebrated annually on the first Saturday of July. The aim of this celebration is to increase awareness on cooperatives, highlight the complementary goals and objectives of the United Nations and the international cooperative movement, underscore the contributions of the movement to the resolution of the major problems addressed by the United Nations, and strengthen and extend partnerships between the international cooperative movement and other actors.

In 1992, following a concerted lobbying effort by the cooperative members of the ICA and Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC) members, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the first Saturday of July 1995 to be International Day of Cooperatives, marking the centenary of the establishment of the Alliance, by resolution 47/90 of 16 December 1992.

Since 1995, the ICA and the United Nations have been setting the theme for the celebration of the International Day through COPAC, a multi-stakeholder partnership of global public and private institutions, the ICA being a founding member, that champions and supports people-centred and self-sustaining cooperative enterprises as leaders in sustainable development.
